Halloween Pumpkin Curry Chutney has always been one of my favourite products to sell at markets, simply because the story behind it is so relatable.
When I tell people about abandoned orchards and gardens full of apples going to waste, it can sometimes feel far-fetched - especially if you’re not from a rural background. But almost everyone has bought a pumpkin for Halloween, carved it, and then thrown it away.
So when I tell people that we take unsold Halloween pumpkins and turn them into the chutney they’re tasting, you can almost see the moment it clicks: something that would have been wasted has been turned into something genuinely delicious.
Last year was our biggest production run yet, and we saved 1.2 tonnes of pumpkins from going to waste. But that barely scratches the surface when you consider the estimated 18,000 tonnes of pumpkins wasted each year in the UK.
And it’s not just pumpkins. Coming up to Halloween and Christmas, the shops are full of seasonal specials and products designed to be used for a few weeks and then forgotten.
If you want to move away from seasonal fads and give something that feels seasonal but tastes great all year round - while helping to tackle food waste - try our Halloween Pumpkin Curry Chutney.
Recipe inspiration
Pumpkin Coronation Chicken
Mix Pumpkin Curry Chutney with mayonnaise (or yoghurt) and shredded roast chicken. Or use leftover turkey at Christmas for an epic Boxing Day sandwich.
Soup, curry & hummus
Add a spoonful as a garnish or serve it as a dip alongside soups, curry nights or hummus for an extra punch of flavour.
Upgrade your cheeseboard
Mix up your cheeseboard with a spicy, flavourful kick. It pairs brilliantly with cheddar, and is also great with goat’s cheese, Cheshire and Brie - the sweet spiced flavours hold up well against the sharp cheeses.
